Winter is officially here in Houston and that means it's time to winterize your sprinkler system! You should do this every winter to prevent any unnecessary and costly issues with cracked or exploding pressure vacuum breakers and sprinkler system lines due to the harsh freezes we get around here. Thankfully, you can do these 3 easy steps in less than 5 minutes with nothing but a flat-head screw driver!

1. Turn off the main shutoff at the pressure breaker valve by making sure it's in horizontal position.

2. Drain the remaining water from the test ports using a screwdriver to help prevent the pipe from cracking or potentially exploding. You can also cover the pipes to provide additional protection from the elements.

3.Turn off your system! The sprinkler system box is usually located inside your garage.
