1. Turn Off the Water Supply
First, shut off your main irrigation water valve. Look for it in the basement, garage, or a valve box.
2. Drain the System
Turn on each separate zone before blowing out
For a sprinkler blowout, connect an air compressor to the blowout port.
Use about 50 PSI for PVC pipes or 30 PSI for polyethylene pipes to blow out each zone individually.
3. Winterize Backflow Preventer
Drain and insulate back flow preventers or remove and store them if required by local codes. For outdoor installations, set ball valves at a 45° angle to prevent freezing.
4. Label System Parts
Mark areas like valves, blowout ports, and manual drains so you can easily restart in the spring.
