🌍 TRADITIONAL AFRICAN PORRIDGE | Millet, Sorghum & Maize Recipe with Milk & Honey 🍯
In today's video, I'm taking you on a journey back to Africa's most ancient and beloved breakfast — traditional African porridge! Made from a powerful combination of millet flour, sorghum, and maize flour, this is the real village-style recipe passed down through generations. I filmed every step from scratch: mixing the flour, warming the water, stirring to a smooth, lump-free consistency, adding fresh milk, finishing with honey, and serving with graham crackers. This is African food culture in its purest, most delicious form!

🌾 WHAT IS AFRICAN PORRIDGE?
African porridge is one of the oldest foods on earth. Long before maize was introduced to Africa by the Portuguese in the 16th–17th centuries, sorghum and millet were the original staple grains of Sub-Saharan Africa. Sorghum was first recorded around 8,000 B.C., discovered at an archaeological site near the Egyptian-Sudanese border — making it one of humanity's oldest cultivated crops!
Across Africa, this porridge goes by many names:
🇰🇪 Kenya & East Africa → UJI (Uji wa Wimbi = millet porridge)
🇿🇦 South Africa (Sotho) → MABELE (sorghum porridge)
🇿🇦 South Africa (Zulu) → AMABELE
🇳🇬 Nigeria → AKAMU or OGI (fermented maize/millet porridge)
🇬🇭 Ghana → HAUSA KOKO (spiced millet porridge)
🇸🇳 Senegal → FONDÉ (millet porridge)
🌍 West Africa → MONI/BOYRI (corn/rice porridge)
No matter where you are in Africa, a warm bowl of porridge in the morning is home.
