Sinulog doesn’t start with drums for us—it starts with faith. The other day, we woke up before 3:00 AM to join thousands of Cebuanos and devotees for the annual Penitential Walk with Jesus, a quiet but powerful tradition that signals the start of the Sinulog season.

Before the city fully woke up, we walked together from Fuente Osmeña, passed through Osmeña Boulevard, and made our way to the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño—following the same route taken by generations of devotees before us. There was something grounding about it: prayers whispered at dawn, steady footsteps, and a shared sense of purpose.

We also attended the first Novena Mass for the 461st Fiesta Señor, and it was truly an awesome experience. Calm, reverent, and deeply moving—reminding us that Sinulog is, at its heart, a thanksgiving to the Sto. Niño.

As the days unfold and Cebu slowly shifts into full Sinulog mode, we’re praying that this year’s Sinulog will be one of the best ever—filled with gratitude, safety, and moments that bring the community closer together.
