After my big walk earlier this year I realised I might benefit from a walking pole at a time, so I decided to build one.

Steps:
1- Select a stick, I used Hazel.
2- Dry the stick and straighten where needed, mine was left out in 30 degree heat under weights to straighten.
3- Remove pokey bits and sand smooth
4-Remove dust and treat the wood, I used about 5 layers of Danish oil
5-leather wrap, measure and cut a section to wrap around with enough on end to fold over and be stiched together.
6-Thin leather edges so they fold or bend easier
7- tool the leather/score a design into the leather (optional step)
8-Make stitching holes like a shoe lace and lace up with some chord.
9- Fitting the Ferrule- shave down the end and squeeze the ferrule on as far as you can go. Remove ferrule and shave off the marked high spots.
10- Repeat the previous untill the ferrule fits all the way, it'll be snug. Then treat the wood end and affix the ferrule, mine had a pin hole.
