A tragic incident occurred in Andharipali village under Atabira block of Bargarh district, Odisha, on Monday early morning. Farmer Benudhar Chhuria lost his life after being attacked and trampled by a wild elephant while going to his field.
According to reports, the elephant suddenly appeared in front of him and attacked, leading to his death on the spot. After receiving the information, local villagers gathered at the scene and forest department officials arrived to investigate the matter.
Residents claim that such an elephant attack has occurred in the area for the first time. The elephant is reportedly moving near human settlements, creating fear among villagers. Locals have questioned why the forest department could not issue prior alerts about the elephant's movement.
Villagers and the local sarpanch have demanded immediate government compensation for the family of the deceased farmer and requested the forest department to drive the elephant back to the forest as soon as possible.
