Is this the best-feeling stretch in the world, or what? 😍
Piriformis Stretch!
🩵The piriformis is a small but mighty muscle deep in your glutes. It connects your sacrum (a triangular bone at the base of your spine) to your thigh bone and helps rotate your hip.
🩵In this clip, I’m practicing Supine Figure-Four Stretch—a great way to release the piriformis. To try it lie on your back, place one ankle on the opposite thigh (close to the knee), and gently hug your knee toward your chest. I like to add gentle rocking movement and deep breathing through the nose.
Did you know… Tightness Isn’t Always the Problem… Many people assume a tight piriformis is causing their discomfort, but sometimes, it might actually be weak and overcompensating for other muscles. Strengthening the glutes and hip rotators can sometimes be just as important as stretching!
And as always, Breathing Can Deepen the Stretch… Since the piriformis is deep in the hip, engaging in diaphragmatic breathing while stretching can help release tension more effectively.
