What is Torticollis(Wry Neck) Twisted Neck

Описание: Torticollis is the shortening of Sternocleido mastoid muscle where flexion to same side and rotation to opposite side of neck muscles occurs.

Can be caused due to any birth trauma or any sudden muscle spasm,hematoma or fibrosis

Torticollis can be congenital and acquired, also
• Postural torticollis
• Troclear torticollis
• Acute torticollis

1. Congenital Torticollis is the most common type and occurs at birth.
It is painless to infants.
You may not notice it until your baby is few weeks old,once they start to gain more control of head you may spot it

2. Acquired Torticollis is generally harmless,
Occurs in 4-6 months baby
You may notice it suddenly or it may come on more slowly
it may be a sign of more serious condition

If we talk about symptoms of torticollis
• Head tilt to one side, neck to other side
• Limited movement of head and neck
• Stiffness in neck muscles
• One shoulder higher than other
• Head tremors, headaches and neck pain

Diagnosis can be done by X-ray of cervical spine, CT Scan and MRI

General treatment includes;
√ Antibiotics
√ Massage
√ Botulinium Toxin

Physiotherapy is the first line of treatment of torticollis
Passive stretching
Torticollis Collar
Neck Collar and Braces
Baby head positioning
Heat therapy

Surgical treatment will be done if physiotherapy doesnot works, we will go for bipolar tenetomy
