Your EHCP Can Cover More Than You Think – Even Therapy, Transport and Meals

Описание: Most parents think an EHCP only covers classroom help. In reality, it can include anything your child needs to access education safely and effectively not just teaching assistance. If your child needs it to learn or attend school, it can go in the plan.

Here’s what you can ask for:
1. Therapy and specialist programmes
Speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, mental-health or feeding programmes can all be written into Section F. The key is showing professional evidence that your child needs them to learn or regulate.

2. Home-to-school transport
If your child cannot travel safely or independently because of their condition, the council can be required to fund transport or an escort. This must be written into Section I of the EHCP and delivered daily, not “when convenient.”

3. Meal and sensory support
Children with sensory or feeding difficulties can have lunchtime supervision, dietary adjustments, or quiet eating areas specified in Section F. These are educational needs when they affect wellbeing or school access.

4. Training for staff
If your child’s progress depends on staff understanding their condition, training for teachers or TAs can be written into Section F too.

Your EHCP is flexible by law; it must include whatever is necessary for your child’s learning, not whatever the school happens to offer.
