Well, under international law it's illegal to shoot it to Pilot Air crew or passengers if they've just ejected from an aircraft in distress this protection even applies

If they're parachuting over enemy territory then once they land they must be treated as prisoners of war and they cannot be harmed.

But this rule doesn't apply to airborne troops and that's because they're considered legitimate targets during their descent
