Ana Costa-Ramón studies how financial awareness shapes maternal labor supply. Many mothers underestimate how part-time work affects lifetime earnings and pensions. In a large-scale Swiss field experiment, providing individualized financial information prompted previously unaware mothers to increase work hours, boosting income and future pensions. Her findings show that simple, low-cost tools can empower women to make informed labor decisions and reduce the child penalty.
Ana Costa-Ramón is an Assistant Professor of Economics of Child and Youth Development,
endowed by the Jacobs Center for Productive Youth Development, at the University of Zurich. Her presentation was part of the Department of Economics’ Annual Research Night, supported by the Excellence Foundation Zurich.
