Takeaways from Chapter 2:

1) Distinctions
• Beautiful, ugly; wealthy, poor; tall, short… all the distinctions of the world are relative, not absolute.
• Not only that, but they also change constantly, depending on the situation or the perspective.

2) Ease vs. Difficulty
• Is a particular task easy or difficult? Well, it really depends, like all other distinctions.
• With an open mind, I can perceive a possible approach and perspective to make it easy — or not. It’s all up to me. I have the power to decide.

The text:

1 - 天下皆知美之為美 斯惡已 - When the world knows beauty as beauty, ugliness arises
2 - 皆知善之為善 斯不善已 - When it knows good as good, evil arises
3 - 故有無相生 - Thus being and non-being produce each other
4 - 難易相成 - Difficult and easy bring about each other
5 - 長短相形 - Long and short reveal each other
6 - 高下相傾 - High and low support each other
7 - 音聲相和 - Music and voice harmonize each other
8 - 前後相隨 - Front and back follow each other
9 - 是以聖人 - Therefore the sages:
10 - 處無為之事 - Manage the work of detached actions
11 - 行不言之教 - Conduct the teaching of no words
12 - 萬物作焉而不辭 - They work with myriad things but do not control
13 - 生而不有 - They create but do not possess
14 - 為而不恃 - They act but do not presume
15 - 功成而弗居 - They succeed but do not dwell on success
16 - 夫唯弗居 - It is because they do not dwell on success
17 - 是以不去 - That it never goes away
