The Monument Canyon Hike is arguably the most popular and scenic hike in the Colorado National Monument. There are several ways in which to hike the canyon and we chose to start from the upper Rim Rock Drive trailhead and hike down into the canyon to the lower trailhead located off Hwy 340 just 2.1 miles east of the west entrance into the monument. Of course this requires spotting a car at the lower trailhead. After the initial
600 ft. descend to the canyon floor, the rest of the hike is relatively level with occasional small ups and downs but gradual. The length of the hike is 6.1 miles. The views from the canyon floor are spectacular and the trail is well maintained.
