On this episode of @darshantalks, we had discussed the evolution of #MedicalAffairs with guest Sarah Jarvis. #SarahJarvis, Global Lead Medical Affairs at ZS Associates (https://www.zs.com/), had elaborated about medical affairs at a global level. There have been higher demands (and rightfully so) for reliable information from patients and doctors in this pandemic. Pharmaceutical companies usually provide this information (about devices, equipment, vaccines) within the medical affairs department. She had presented data showing that companies have started to track digital online influencers through employees in the medical affairs domain. The next step is to engage these influencers, usually from a patient advocacy group or junior thought leaders in the life sciences field. There are some misconceptions outside the industry as to what an #MSL does with people thinking it's related to pharma sales, even though it's a non-commercial role. Providing information with trusted sources is vital for customers to hear. She had spoken about how her company tied up with pharmacy schools to present an overview of medical affairs and talked about recently introduced MSL training programs. She had found that leaders find it hardest to work remotely with a new team because establishing relationships without physical presence are complex. It is crucial to have AI and machine-learning help give trusted sources for information to clinicians (instead of just having to Google), along with additional engagements by #MSLs.
