Описание:
The sins of fathers don’t die with them.
They pass down the line, carried by children who never chose them.
This is a song about love, guilt, and a run for freedom that was doomed from the start.
In the end, the past always catches up.

[Verse 1]
I was barely eighteen when my world went wrong,
my old man spoke with his fists, every night was long.
Dust on the ranch, a gun in my hand,
one shot rang out… and silence took the land.
[Chorus]
That’s why the sheriff came, with the town behind,
my name was written heavy in every wanted sign.
I didn’t run from justice, I ran from what I’d done,
it was a run for freedom…
that ended bad, my son.
[Verse 2]
She had only her father, hard voice, cold as stone,
she cooked his meals by daylight, cried when she was alone.
When I saw her pain was the same as mine,
I swore no man alive would ever cross that line.
[Chorus]
That’s why the sheriff came, with a badge like stone,
every mile we traveled felt farther from home.
I told her it happened once, I said that was the end,
some lies are told for love…
some never get forgiven.
[Verse 3]
Before we left that town, I went back one last time,
anger pulled the trigger faster than my mind.
Another shot, more dust, another door closed tight,
this ain’t a hero’s story — just wrong stacked on wrong that night.
[Bridge]
I never said I was clean.
I just regretted it…
before the barrel cooled.
[Verse 4]
In New Mexico we hid on a dead man’s ranch,
she said she couldn’t go on, said her strength was spent.
The hunters came in quiet, like they always do,
they pulled her far away…
and then they came for me too.
[Chorus]
That’s why the sheriff came, with a rope for law,
no questions left to answer, no mercy left to draw.
She stood there crying in the evening sun,
and I knew right then…
the bill had finally come.
[Final Verse]
Now I’m standing on this box, the sun’s going down,
singing my own story to this hanging town.
If heaven’s got a judge, I’ll face him soon enough,
but loving her was the best thing…
and the worst thing I ever done.
[Final Chorus]
Yeah, the sheriff came, the law won in the end,
I didn’t outrun my guilt — I just ran with it till then.
If you hear me, darlin’, please understand:
we ran from the darkness…
but it caught me where I stand.
