The king boat culture is very popular in Taiwan’s coastal areas, where the king, or wangye, is worshipped. Held once every three years, Pingtung’s "Wangye Worshipping Ceremony" will be held in November. But the local government has already launched a six-day round-the-island tour of the king boat to pray for blessings and eliminate evil.
Hauled by a flatbed trailer, the king boat slowly pulled into the last stop of its long journey, Baoan temple in Eluanbi, putting an end to a safe journey. The temple has followed traditional rituals during its king boat tour around Taiwan, so that people in Central and Northern Taiwan could learn about Pingtung’s king boat culture. The temple is inviting people to come to Nanzhou Township in November for the "Wangye Worshipping Ceremony" to experience this unique folk culture.
