You want to know if losing a twin in the first trimester puts a woman in the high-risk category for future pregnancies. And there are so many different things that can put a woman in the high-risk category. If she has certain health conditions prior to becoming pregnant, like diabetes, high blood pressure, PCOS (or polycystic ovarian syndrome), thyroid problems, autoimmune diseases - the list goes on and on and on, that will put her at high risk. Then, of course, there's past pregnancy history issues that could put her at high risk, like if you have a history of recurrent pregnancy loss, if you've had a stillbirth baby, if you had preeclampsia, or eclampsia, preterm labor, preterm delivery - there's so many different things.
But losing a twin in the first trimester, in and of itself, is not something that would make a woman high-risk, unless she's pregnant with twins again. Being pregnant with twins puts you in the high-risk category, but the fact that a twin was lost was related to the twin pregnancy. So if you've had complications in the past, be sure to talk with your OB provider when you become pregnant next time. And based on their knowledge of your circumstances, they'll decide if additional monitoring, additional appointments, or follow-up are necessary in that pregnancy, based on your history. I hope the best for you, and if you have any other questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at / intermountainmoms , and recommend us to your friends and family too.
