Jacob Blake protests: Kenosha mayor says national guard deployed, police working to protect public

Описание: Authorities in Kenosha, Wisc., held a news conference on Thursday following days of protests and unrest in the city following the police shooting of Jacob Blake.

Kenosha Mayor John Antaramian on Wednesday called for unity amid the protests in the wake of the shooting of Black man Jacob Blake by police earlier that week, saying that the most important aspect is the safety of people, stressing National Guard members and law enforcement were there to protect the community and protect those "peacefully protesting."

Wisc. AG Josh Kaul identified the officer who shot the 29-year-old Black man seven times as Rusten Sheskey on Wednesday.

During the update on Wednesday, Kaul also gave a timeline of events that led up to Blake's shooting. He said that during the investigation following the initial incident in which police were called, Blake admitted to having a knife. Kaul said during the incident, Sheskey fired seven shots into Blake's back, and no other officers fired their weapons.

He also spoke about the incident on Tuesday night, during the ongoing protests, in which two people died and another was injured after being shot, which he called a "despicable" event. The individual involved in the shooting has since been arrested and charged.
