End-of-video Picture Showcase - 8:51
Just over half an hour's railway action at this suburban level crossing on Cosham High Street in the City of Portsmouth features in this video. The highlight catch for definite is that in the second lowering which features Statesman Rail's "The Portsmouth Harbour Statesman" tour which was approaching the end of its long journey from Nantwich in Cheshire. Top & Tail Class 47 locomotives in two different historic liveries (Intercity and Scot Rail respectively) can be seen working this train which carried passengers in luxurious Pullman carriages to and from Portsmouth Harbour. Not the ideal shot from almost directly overhead, admittedly, but it was a last-moment re-position due to me observably seeing a local stopper, working a service between the two 'Rival' south coast cities, ready to depart Cosham Station just as the tour came into sight - I narrowly missed getting 'Bowled'!
Level crossing operations here are taken care of from a computerised signalling centre in nearby Havant, as is all the signalling on the lines into the city of Portsmouth since re-signalling in 2007. The clattering and unhealthy-seeming barriers can also be seen raising and lowering for numerous other passenger trains, but no Great Western Railway services feature. Hope you enjoy nonetheless!
