Saturday was an amazing day leading to the removal of an abandoned boat we’ve been eyeing for months. The water was finally low enough for us to safely connect a strap to the boat and use David’s 4x4 “trash beast” to pull it out of the middle of Steelhead Creek. After some strategic positioning, it was pulled out intact - an 18 foot, 1970’s era SeaRay SRV 190! It was an amazing sight to see!
In addition to the boat removal, three separate abandoned and flooded encampments were identified within the creek and cleaned. There was so much debris that we weren’t able to finish at each site, so we returned to the same locations the following day.
Two trailer loads of pollution, plus an old boat, in a single cleanup shows we are not slowing down. There is no shortage of trash in this poor creek.
A big thank you to David, for using his truck and all its 4x4 power to remove the boat and haul the trailer around. It’s a full time job for a volunteer position. We appreciate the time, effort, resources, and energy you put into what we do!
We also want to thank the City of Sacramento, for the use of two dumpsters they have provided for us to fill and will haul away for us. Woohoo!
Teamwork makes the creek work!
Volunteers and badgers are working hard to restore the health and wellness of our waterways. 💚🐟💙
