Steelhead Creek Cleanup @ Del Paso/Main 23.0, 2/7/26

Описание: On Saturday, 21 volunteers returned to Steelhead Creek near Del Paso Blvd for the 22nd time ready to tackle yet another flooded, abandoned encampment causing extensive ecological contamination.

Sadly, a dead river otter was found amongst the pollutants, a somber reminder why RCWA volunteers are relentless about their mission. We also found a small motorcycle. Therefore, we will refer to this camp as “Motorcycle Camp”, although a much more somber “Dead Otter Camp” nickname was mentioned. We also removed 6 automotive batteries from the water, 2 of which were open and leaking acid.

Despite the sadness surrounding our discovery, we worked relentlessly for 3 1/2 hours, offloading 2 trailers full of wet, muddy debris into one of the two dumpsters graciously provided by the City. We were extremely pleased that the City granted our request for a second dumpster this weekend, eliminating the need for two dump runs with our trailer!

Thank you everyone for working so hard in these challenging conditions. We’ve already removed over 120,000 lbs of trash and debris from this short 1,500 foot section of creek. That’s a massive reduction in material and waste harmful to the fish and wildlife. We will continue to return to this area until it is RCWA Clean! 🦦🐟🦆🦉🪿
