The first human settlements in this center are lost in the mists of time, in all probability it was already inhabited in the Villanovan era, important traces can be found in the rupestrian settlement of Vitozza and in that of San Rocco, however the news is too scarce to draw any precise conclusions.

On the other hand, the presence of the Etruscans is certain, as evidenced by the numerous areas with chamber tombs, the dovecotes, the mysterious and fascinating vie cave. There are not many traces of the Roman phase, following the Etruscan one, but the name "Soranus" seems to testify to its Romanism.

The written history of Sorano begins on 9 October of the year 862, when the Aldobrandesca County was established by the Emperor Ludovico II, subsequently we find it in a document of the year 1172, when the castle appeared as a property of the Di Bartolomeo family, always under the power of the Aldobrandeschi.

The fate of the town followed those of this powerful family, until 1312, when it became extinct, after 450 years of feudal domination, which passed between battles and struggles for supremacy.

In fact, in 1312, Ildebrandino's only daughter died, that is the countess Margherita, who married Guido di Montfort, Count of Leicester, had given birth to the only Anastasia married on........
