📋 *𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆* 📋
The name could derive from the ancient Roman gens Calvia or from "Carbium", which means "way of the rocks". It is a very ancient settlement whose traces date back to the Middle Bronze Age.
The current town has Roman origins, demonstrated by the discovery of remains, coins and more.

Probably during the Roman period, however, it did not constitute an organic settlement, but there was a set of villas and farms that developed as an urban center only in the early Middle Ages, with the abandonment of the settlements in the valley, now unsafe.

With the fall of the Roman Empire, Heruli, Ostrogoths and Byzantines arrived, then it was included in the Longobard Sabina, subject to the dukes of Spoleto, and finally became subject to the Holy See through the donation of 714 made by Liutprand to Pope Zacharias.

In the 11th century Calvi became the property of the Farfa Abbey.
The news regarding the Community in the eleven11th h and 12th centuries is scarce, probably in the last century it experienced the period of maximum economic vitality and relative territorial expansion.
