There was no shortage of credentials when Drummer/Singer Roy Blumenfeld's assembled ensemble (I'm pretty sure I can say that) took the stage to headline ArtistA☮JoyFest 4 in 2011. Attempting to be one myself, I was immediately awestruck by the bass player who only performed for these first two tunes. His holistic command of the instrument and envelope control of every note was obvious.* His name is Cliff Hugo and of course it turns out that he's played with the likes of Supertramp and Ray Charles.
Google or Bing anyone in this lineup:
David LaFlamme - Violin (misspelled in credits)
David Aguilar - Guitar, vocals
Ken Cook - Keyboard
Glenn Sullivan - Trumpet
Rick Clifford - Saxaphone
Steve LaPorta - Percussion
Cliff Hugo - Bass, vocals
Roy Blumenfeld - Drums, vocals
Trying to recover the un-mic'd violin off a percussion mic and one of the camera mics introduces a bit of harshness into the mix but given the historic value I though this was still worth publishing - stay tuned for more from Roy Blumenfeld's set that day.
Stand up was written by Mel McDaniel
Remedy was written by Colin Kendal Linden and Jimmy Weider
*When sound is done right, 90% of the system's power belongs to the bass player and the kick drum; it's a physics thing - drop an octave, quadruple the power required to produce a note of the same volume and the same amount of power to stop the note (called damping) giving "tightness" to the sound. Bass gives weight to an otherwise flighty thin sound produced by rock combos and serves as a tether that holds the structure together in the high winds produced by the genre.
