We often imagine a post-apocalpse, where our actions are suddenly important, we control our lives, and society rebuilds better, maybe a bit less than the doomsday preppers in a bunker do though. This gives the apocalypse a certain allure of self improvement and rebirth, so this analysis video essay will explore; is it wrong to want the world to end?

Vinland Saga is an anime about turn of the millennium vikings, but it relates to the desire for world’s end in the Danish concept of Valhalla, and the Christian day of judgement, each showcasing a want to leave behind this hopeless world so far gone nothing can fix it. This is where the characters Askeladd and Canute explain both why people wish for the apocalypse, and also why doing so is a cyclical, self-serving logic, leading to inaction and further evil. Analyzing Vinland Saga, we find an all around perfect example for the existential crisis of armageddon's allure.
The Girl’s Last Tour anime follows Chito and Yuuri, or Chi and Yuu, ridding out the end of the world. Despite the entirely hopeless and unfixable state, Chi and You don’t despair but live happily average lives, simply surviving day to day with joy rather than hiding in a bunker. With no reason to live (meaninglessness), they hold total importance and control over themselves and their surroundings, a paradoxical enlightenment. Can the apocalypse really provide freedom and self improvement? This is what Girls Last Tour discusses.
Fallout: New Vegas is one of the greatest games of all time, seeing the courier change the entire Mojave wasteland. Starting from small town Goodsprings and moving all the way up to the bloated New California Republic (NCR), your life and actions are in control and stressed as totally important. However, through interactions between the courier, NCR, Brotherhood of Steel, and Great Khans, Fallout New Vegas also analyzes why that importance can be taxing; your effort is always required, unless you want a terrible ending. Do we even want to be in charge of our own lives?
Doomsday preppers and the architecture of dread, a paper from Bradley Garrett, is one which will appear from searches like “what motivates preppers?” or about the survival condo. The paper has many issues, but it serves as an idealized example of prepping. From the origins of fallout shelters (bunkers), how abandonment motivated the isolationist and survivalist mentality, and an interview about the survival condo, Garrett’s paper explains and discusses doomsday prep in a very sympathetic light.
