Brompton Bikepacking - The Old North from Alnmouth to Berwick

Описание: I bought Jack Thurston's book, Lost Lanes North for some vicarious cycle touring during the first lockdown. It's 36 day- or overnight rides across the North of England that stick to quiet roads, lanes, and cycle tracks.

Over this last winter, having been admiring Susanna Thornton's excellent videos about her adventures on her Brompton, I thought it'd be fun to ride all Jack's routes in this book on mine.

This video is the first of those rides, and I picked the route closest to home - "The Old North", from Alnmouth up to Berwick, with a return by train. I set off just after lunch on the last Friday in March, and rode up the coast to a likely looking place to camp near the start, that I'd spotted on Google Maps. The ride from there was even better than had been promised in the book, and I only wish I'd followed Jack's advice - he says, "it's do-able in a day with a train back. A weekend would allow for any detours and a proper look around the ruined castles and the holy Island of Lindisfarne, and the odd swim in the sea."

I had a brilliant couple of days though, with some of the best riding I've ever experienced. I hope you enjoy the ride as much as I did, and will come along on my next adventure!
