Sharing an April 2021 VHF Summit on the Air activation attempt on Camano Island (WA), along with a comparison of VHF contacts along the Camano Ridge Preserve trail versus a northern road that lies within the activation zone. This is my 4th attempt to activate this summit, and 3rd successful one. Sometimes lower elevation summits can be more of a challenge for VHF. For a HF activation, there is a nice area 0.3 miles into the trail (approaching from the west parking area which is much nicer than the east). I finally do activate the summit on VHF from the trail, and it took approx. 50 minutes. Like my prior road activation attempt, contacts were much quicker along the road.
