It looks like we have some excellent fishing lined up for Father’s Day weekend as long as the weatherman cooperates. Big stripers in the 30 to 50-pound range are strung along the South Shore on the bunker schools all the way to Montauk, and the North Fork bite has taken off with good numbers of slot size bass. Porgy action remains strong out east and in many parts of the Sound. Offshore fishing is off to a fast start with continued reports of a good inshore bluefin bite. Bluefish came on strong after a late start and continue to keep boatmen and surfcasters busy. Fluking is good in some areas and slow to get going with any consistency in others, but the keeper ratio appears to be better than the previous few seasons, with some real doormats in the mix. Blowfish are keeping the dock crowd busy in some areas where a little chumming certainly helps. Lots of folks are looking ahead with great anticipation to next Tuesday’s opening of sea bass season.
