This is from the first day of the 'Conference for Operationalizing GNH in Bhutan and Beyond' that took place at Dungkar Dzong, Pangbisa, Paro, Bhutan on the 19th of June, 2025.
Rabsel Dorji shared the vision for Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) - a 2,500 sq km Special Administrative Region announced by His Majesty The King, designed as both an economic hub and a sanctuary for well-being. 🌿✨ Strategically placed between South and Southeast Asia, GMC is guided by the “Diamond Strategy” to blend prosperity with Bhutan’s timeless values of Gross National Happiness.
Built on seven core industries, from spirituality, wellness, and education to agri-tech, green energy, digital finance, and aviation, the city will operate under a pioneering governance model, combining global legal frameworks with Bhutan’s cultural spirit. Its goal: to remain fundamentally green, safe, and happy.
At the heart of this vision is a phased development journey, building key infrastructure by 2035, growing into a thriving hub in the decades ahead, and ultimately becoming a “Mindfulness City” where economic growth and spiritual harmony walk hand in hand.
