Here's what Tom Dey's unproduced broad, family-friendly action-adventure disaster comedy entitled "2012" (2009) could've been made under Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies instead of Roland Emmerich's own 2009 big-budget disaster film about the 2012 prophecy "2012" by Columbia Pictures, and the opening logos should've looked like this!




On May 16, 2007, it was announced that director Tom Dey was set to reteam with Paramount Pictures — following the previous year's commercially successful romantic comedy Failure to Launch — on a broad, family-friendly action-adventure disaster comedy entitled 2012, which Paramount was developing through their Nickelodeon Movies label. Also set to reteam with Dey and Paramount following Failure to Launch were screenwriters Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember, whose script's central concept revolves around a family who goes on vacation in December of 2012, just as the Mayan calendar is coming to a close, and all hell inevitably breaks loose. Alas, the project ultimately never materialized, with Dey moving on to direct the critically panned and financially underwhelming Marmaduke for 20th Century Fox and Roland Emmerich making his own big-budget disaster film about the 2012 prophecy for Sony's Columbia Pictures.
