The Laundry List, AKA The 14 Traits of an Adult Child of Alcoholic and Dysfunctional Families is the foundation of the ACA Program. These Traits represent the effects of living with alcoholism which is mentioned in Step 1: "We admitted we were powerless over the effects of living with alcoholism and that our lives had become unmanageable." Therefore, to properly take Step 1 in the ACA 12 Step Program, one must understand the 14 Traits - especially how they operate inside of themselves. The purpose of this series is to help you understand these Traits better. But please don't take what I say as anything other than one man sharing his own experience. For the program to work for you, YOU must dig into it yourself.

According to ACA philosophy, "Para-Alcoholism" (which is what adult children are considered) is the foundation for both Alcoholism and Codependency. Therefore, I believe that the "exact nature" of these other "diseases" is this thing called Para-Alcoholism which is the repressed trauma from childhood which comes is expressed in a thousand different ways. After doing the necessary work in AA , Alanon or any other 12 Steps Program, I believe that most would benefit from working the ACA Program to heal their Inner Child and complete the recovery process.
