Day 2: Valcarlos to Roncesvalles – Climbing Toward the Sacred

Описание: I began my second day of the Camino in Valcarlos, a peaceful village in the foothills of the Pyrenees. The trail took me through lush landscapes and past traditional Basque farmhouses, with views of the mountains still in sight. I passed through Arre, a small hamlet, and continued climbing steadily toward Roncesvalles. The green … the greenest green an artist would want for a canvas.

The path was lined with forests and meadows, offering serene views of the surrounding valleys. I made the mistake of underestimating the difficulty of the climb and NOT eating or having food … slowly slowly stopping dozens of times to rest… I made it. When I reached Roncesvalles, I was greeted by the impressive Monastery of Roncesvalles, a legendary site that has been a refuge for pilgrims for centuries. With 755 kilometers left to Santiago, today’s trek blended natural beauty with the rich history of the Camino, making it a memorable part of the journey.
