Salda Lake is a slightly salty karst lake surrounded by forest-covered hills, rocky lands and small alluvial plains in the Yeşilova district of Burdur, 4 km from the district center. It has a closed basin structure with no outflow in the Lakes Region. Its area is about 44 square kilometers. It is Turkey's 3rd deepest lake with a depth of up to 184 meters. The hydromagnesite mineral formed in the lake is one of the most beautiful and contemporary examples of "biological mineralization".
The arrival of the Turks in this region, which was called Psidia in the Classical Greek Age, dates back to the 1071 Battle of Manzikert. The lands of today's Burdur passed into the hands of the Hamitoğulları Principality after the Anatolian Seljuk State. It was annexed to the Ottoman lands by Yıldırım Beyazıt in 1391. With the local administration reform made in 1852, it became Burdur Sanjak and became 11 centers with the Republic. Currently, the province of Burdur consists of 11 districts, including the central district.
While the only district of Burdur province was Tefenni until 1926, Bucak was made a district that year. In 1936, Yeşilova became a district. Gölhisar, the township of Tefenni, became the administrative center of the district in 1952 and Ağlasun in 1958. The number of districts remained 5 until the 1980s, and this number reached 10 when Karamanlı and Kemer in 1988 and Altınyayla, Çavdır and Çeltikçi became district centers in 1990.
