Which Lenses Do You Need? How Much Should You Pay? - Lesson 6
I have always said that the lenses you buy are more important than the camera. You are more likely to upgrade your camera long before you upgrade your lenses. I’ll give you an example.
My beautiful Canon EF70-200mm L f2.8 IS is now nearly 20 years old. I have used it on ALL my Canon DSLR’s, my Panasonic GH4, GH5 and S1H (using adapters).
The same goes for my Canon EF16-35mm L f2.8, EF24-70mm L f2.8 and EF50mm1.4.
They are all exceptional lenses and still produce incredibly high quality images. The 70-200 is built like a tank. I once threw my camera bag over my shoulder not realising it was still open and this £2k lens bounced down the sidewalk. I instantly thought “insurance job”. However, that was more than a decade ago and it is still working perfectly well. No insurance needed, no repairs needed.
You get what you pay for.
The 70-200 is a zoom lens, let’s start with fixed focal length lenses in the next lesson.
