Automated & Scalable Manufacturing Strategies for Cell & Gene Therapies Prof Rafiq UCL-Cytiva

Описание: Description: The seminar will focus on challenge-led research addressing biomanufacturing and translational issues associated with advanced therapies including gene-modified cell therapies (CAR-T, CAR-NK, CAR-M), gene therapies (LV and AAV bioprocessing), stem cell therapies (HSCs, iPSCs and MSCs) and non-viral approaches to gene delivery (exosomes, transposon/transposase, electroporation, mechanoporation). In particular we will cover the development of standardised, scalable and robust manufacturing processes for the consistent manufacture of clinical-grade ATMPs, strategies for identifying and minimising variability associated with input material for cell therapy manufacture, development of suitable manufacturing scale-down models and Quality by Design approach to improve final product quality. These therapies have the potential to revolutionise medical treatments by delivering genetic molecules to disease sites to control protein production in cells and tissues.

This annual seminar is part of the UCL-Cytiva Centre of Excellence (CoE), led by UCL Biochemical Engineering and our industrial partner Cytiva. The CoE has been funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Prosperity Partnership initiative. The UCL-Cytiva CoE Prosperity Partnership Vision is to address the challenges of manufacturing revolutionary genomic medicines. The partnership will improve patient access to transformative therapies and establish manufacturing innovation in a high-growth sector for societal and economic impact.

Qasim Rafiq is a Professor in Bioprocess Engineering at UCL Dept of Biochemical Engineering with a specific focus on Cell and Gene Therapy Bioprocessing. He is Chartered Engineer (CEng), a Chartered Scientist (CSci), a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and was recognised as one of the top 20 influential and inspirational individuals in Advanced Medicine for 2020 by The Medicine Maker listed amongst Nobel Laureates, multi-national CEOs and leading scientists.
