The Maya Collection
From sunrise to sunset, our gaze wanders around Chicén Itzá, Uxmal, Palenque, Tika!… taking a close look at Mayan architecture allows us to better understand the relationship that our ancestors maintained with the mystery and grandeur of the universe.
By means of a collection of ten videotapes photographed in 35 mm, color film, and through the vision of Enrique Lecuona’s camera, maestro Juan Lino’s music and specially prepared text and narrative, we are lead on a tour that simulates all our senses with images that produce an abundance of conversations in the viewers that are not only visual and auditory.
Both the majesty of the monuments located in the thirty-five sites visited and the hidden corners in each of the constructions, express the Maya conscousness of the world. This leaves us spellbound, we who belong to a civilization that has much to learn from that milenary culture.
The MAYA COLLECTION is not a mere journey. It is a artistic search that teaches us how much our 20th Century ears can still hear from ancient times. To learn from the past in order to shape the future, it is the sense of historical comprehension that is the message that the author of these films tries to convey.
Apart from their valuable documentary contents and of the aesthetic enjoyment they provide, it is hoped that these videotapes will also generate a greater interest in people from all walks of life to visit the sites presented in the films. This will enable people become personally acquainted with the art and philosophy of the Mayan Culture and to continue to uncover the messages that these extraordinary inhabitants of the universe are still conveying.
Let us get ready to perceive the humanity that can be felt pulsating behind the stories and to recover the life that is still preserved in these ruins in spite of the centuries.
