President Cyril Ramaphosa will today host the People's Republic of China's President Xi Jinping on his fourth State visit to South Africa. He will also participate in the 15th Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) Summit being held in Johannesburg for the next three days. China is South Africa's biggest global trading partner and in July 2018, China announced an investment of $15 billion in South Africa's economy which included loans for power utilities and infrastructure. Since then, the bilateral trade between the two countries has grown exponentially, from less than R1 billion in 1998 to over R614 billion in 2022. President Ramaphosa has said that South Africa also wants to address the trade deficit between South Africa and China.
