Canada Nursing versus USA Nursing

The differences in the 2 countries.

1. You were 4 shifts in a row. 2 day shifts and 2 night shifts. This is the standard in Canada. In the US this is different, you work 3 day shifts or 3 night shifts for the week.
2. Private health care and Free health care. This obviously has huge implications on the type of care you provide. In US, Private pay is more of service and quality you are providing and trying to compete with the hospital your working next to or across from. In Canada you don’t have that feeling, you refer to the hospital that is able to provide the best care for the patient. With that being said, there is often more of wait for patients in Canada because it is free and everyone has access to it, there is going to be more wait times.
3. Focus of hospital is care rather than profit. In US hospitals are businesses and need to make money. In Canada, hospitals still work in a similar capacity with budgets and restrictions but at the end of the day it is government supported therefore the need will always be there. For instance, a hospital in the states can shut down if there is no need for it, whereas in Canada you can't even have a private hospital so it will always be there.
