Hi everyone! We're continuing with this rather heady topic, but looking at Major ii-V-I progressions. The key difference between this and the previous episode is that our interscalar transposition goes upward rather than downward (if we have the 5th in the bass on the ii chord, we now have the 6th in the bass on the V chord). Also, we need to get comfortable with moving through the family of Major 6 chords.
I like to view the 4 members of the chord ( root, 3rd, 5th, and 6th ) as having different placements in the major family than in the minor family. In the minor family, we have to move up one fret ONLY for the 5th (when moving from having the 6th in bass to having the 5th in the bass, the bass note moves up one fret). In the major family, we have to move up for both the 5th and the 3rd. Perhaps think of the minor family as having one parent and 3 kids, whereas the major family has 2 parents and 2 kids. . .
