Mega Man X5: Part 1: Intro Stage

Once again, starting a game will let you choose from with X or Zero, but this time they share a story together. So you'll get to pick the other later after using the first for one level.

But I highly recommend that you pick X first.

Following the events of Mega Man X4, the Repliforce Wars against the Maverick Hunters and the Earth have ended. Many lives were felled in this battle, including Iris, Colonel, and General, the leader of the Repliforce.

And this was all the work of Sigma, who had once again returned from the dead. Thankfully, Maverick Hunters X & Zero were able to foil his plot once again and save the Earth.

However, this, too, was only a temporary repose, as it is clear that Sigma had still survived that fight and was already on the move towards his next plot. He had teamed up with a new henchman for a scheme that involved plummeting a colony into the Earth.

However, this scheme seemed to be covering a scheme itself, as Sigma had dire plans for Zero specifically to draw out the true enemy of his life...

Starting out with X, X was sent by Alia to a city in his Fourth Armor to track down Sigma, who was confirmed alive and on the move, again. Meanwhile, Zero's whereabouts for the mission were still unknown.
----

I like Alia. She seems to be the closest X equivalent to Roll in this sub-series. She will be your navigator going forward with this series.

However, with this game, she also happens to be a rather major flaw with the game's flow and pacing. Being a navigator means Alia will track your progress and inform you of your surroundings, but gameplay-wise this means interrupting your control to tell you a lot of basic things.

Your travels through the city will eventually bring you to a construction site where a statue is being built.

Here, X finally manages to find Zero... which involved Zero falling from the sky, badly damaged and barely hanging on...

According to him, Sigma had not only survived, but imposed more of his existence as a virus to do so.

And then... it turned out that Sigma, as a gigantic head, was hiding inside the statue! He was ready to kill both X & Zero, this time!

Watch out for all of his mouth attacks and aim there when he opens it. Seems odd to have to fight Sigma THIS soon into the game.

But then you beat him and find out why...

Starting this stage as X will let you keep using his Fourth Armor when you pick him to start further levels with, sacrificing the use of Zero's Z-Buster. Likewise, if you started this run as Zero, instead, X will be the one badly damaged by the time you reach Sigma and you won't be able to use his Fourth Armor for the rest of the run, in exchange for Zero regaining his Z-Buster.

CLEARLY, one pick is better than the other. It's like picking a difficulty mode!

After beating Sigma this time... it turned out that being defeated this way was a part of his next evil scheme! His Sigma Virus was immediately unleashed and cloaked the entire Earth! X & Zero had no choice but to return to Hunter Base to discuss this situation with Alia, Signas, and Douglas!

The Sigma Virus plaguing the Earth wasn't the only problem on the Maverick Hunters' hands, but also the Space Colony Eurasia was planning a crash course into the Earth. It will make impact in just 16 hours!

The Hunter had no choice but to destroy Eurasia, itself, but they were left with very limited options as to how to do that. First off, they had an Enigma cannon, but it was very old and dated. Second, they had a space shuttle that they could smash right into the colony, but its effectiveness was also affected by the Sigma Virus, rendering its auto-pilot function useless. So someone would have to manually pilot the thing towards the colony, at the great risk of losing their own life...

The Enigma by itself would need more parts to function properly. Certain other Maverick Hunters have these parts, but the Sigma Virus have turned them into Mavericks, themselves.

For the sake of the humans and Reploids alike, X & Zero will have to team up to track down these new Mavericks for their Enigma parts, and attempt to use the completed cannon in their first attempt to destroy Eurasia and save the Earth!
