190 at Downpatrick - first start in preservation

Описание: 190 arrived in Downpatrick on Sunday 1st June. Less than a week later, on Saturday 7th June, and after some jiggery pokery (overhauled batteries installed, checking loose connections, checking and cleaning contactors and a few other bits and pieces) and hitting it with lumps of wood, it finally started – just after anyone with a decent camera or phone had went home.

So the first start ever in preservation at Downpatrick was captured on a potato, and the sound is so bad it’s a bit like a G class at times. That’s the ITG way. But 190 lives.

We tried again on Sunday 8th June while we were waiting for the offloading of mobile spare parts collection 152. The start was less dramatic, but captured on non-potato cameras. It’s almost a non-event it’s that easy.
Now there’s a load of work still to do. The engine starts, but we are debugging our way round the brake systems and then probably we will find other bits that don’t work. The load regulator seems to be a bit off, and there’s probably some adjustments. But this is a special moment in ITG history.
