On the 12th October 2019 the Irish Traction Group held a diesel gala at the Downpatrick & County Down Railway to mark their 30th anniversary.
Throughout the day we got a nice selection of diesel loco action and even some thumper action as a bonus.
We start off by heading round to the Asda car park just round the corner from Downpatrick station were we see Preserved NIR 80 Class set 69 + 749 pulling out of the carriage shed sidings.
Next we see Ex C.I.E G Class loco G617 passing 69 while running light engine.
Next we head round to Downpatrick station were we see DCDR's 2nd Preserved 80 Class set 90 + 752 ticking over in the cathedral siding.
Shortly after that 69 + 749 pull into the station loop for a photo shoot.
Then after receiving a lot of attention for the enthusiasts 69 + 749 shunt out of the station and back to the carriage shed sidings to stable.
Then after the thumpers time in the spot light it was time for the loco hauled train action to begin and it starts off with Ex C.I.E C Class loco C231 shunting the passenger set into the platform.
The passenger set was formed off
GSWR 836 , 70 Class trailer 728 & Recently restored Park Royal 1944. This is also the first time we have seen C231 in action since the pervious ITG Gala back in 2014.
Next we see Ex Irish Rail 141 Class loco 146 departing Inch Abbey bound for Downpatrick.
Shortly after we see C231 shunting to the loop to await the arrival of the next train.
Next we see G617 arriving with the train from Downpatrick
Next C231 shunts onto the train to bring it back to Downpatrick.
We now travel back behind C231 back to Downpatrick
Next we see 146 running out of the yard to hook up to the train in preparation to the propel the train out from Downpatrick to Magnus's Grave via Downpatrick Loop with G617 (Dead) on the front of the train.
After a photo stop at Magnus 146 hauls the train to Downpatrick loop for another photo stop before continuing on to Downpatrick.
Next we see 146 coming off the train and returning to the yard to await her next duty.
Next we travel behind Ex C.I.E A Class loco A39 to Inch Abbey
Back at Downpatrick A39 heads back the yard after her return trip to Inch Abbey.
Next we see a very rare movement 146 & C231 head out of the yard and hook onto the train working in multiple.
This is the first time A 141 Class loco & A Class loco have ever worked in multiple in preservation.
146 & C231 Then haul the train out to Inch Abbey
At Inch Abbey C231 departs with the last train of the day while 146 shunts out of the loop in preparation to work the 450 class buffet train ECS move to Downpatrick at the end of a fantastic day.
This move would later end up being worked doubled headed with 146 & C231.
