In this video, I want to share a common mistake I made when I was just starting out with the Roland FR-1x.
Coming from an acoustic accordion background, I was used to constantly moving the bellows to add expression to my playing. I also didn’t want to hear the sound of air flow while I played, so I felt like I had to push and pull the bellows just like I would on an acoustic. That turned out to be a mistake.
All I did was make things harder for myself. First, I ended up hurting the pad of my palm. Then I pulled the wrist strap so hard that I broke it loose from inside the accordion — and had to get it repaired!
The bottom line? Let gravity do some of the work for you. A light touch goes a long way with digital accordions like the FR-1x. There's no need to fight it — play smart, not hard!
