The most captivating aspect of Beautiful Soldier is the piano in the background. The low chords accenting the beat really draw you in to listen to the backing track. It is coarse, rough, and alluring; I wanted to capture that magic, but I unfortunately only have two hands, and such reach into the lowest registers would not be feasible under normal circumstances -- I had to make accommodations and settle for an octave higher, sacrificing authenticity for practicality. However, that does not mask the originality of the piece, as this is an almost faithful transcription, rather than an arrangement, disregarding three (maybe two) "additions" of mine.
I have always thought chords in the lower registers sounded muddy. I still agree with this sentiment, but I now see beauty in the mud, and I think it especially fits in well with this piece.
