In the fifth edition of the series 'Mijn idee voor Nederland' (translation: My idea for the Netherlands) Theodore Dalrymple will shed his light on the Netherlands.

What are the historical roots of our social problems and how can they be linked to the problems of other European countries? How can the Dutch 'tradition' of Calvinism be combined with the notion of tolerance? Theodore Dalrymple will speak about the societal changes that have occurred in our country since the end of the sixties and present to us his idea about The Netherlands.

Theodore Dalrymple, schrijver van tal van boeken waaronder "Leven aan de onderkant", "Beschaving of wat ervan over is" en "Door en door verwend" staat bekend om zijn scherpe kritiek op de stand van zaken in Groot-Brittannië. In de vijfde aflevering van de serie 'Mijn idee voor Nederland' zal de Britse schrijver en cultuurcriticus zich wenden tot Nederland.

Waar liggen de wortels van onze sociale en maatschappelijke problemen en hoe verhouden deze problemen zich tot die van andere Europese landen? Hoe rijmt de Nederlandse 'traditie' van tolerantie zich met het calvinisme? Theodore Dalrymple zal spreken over de maatschappelijke veranderingen die in ons land zijn opgetreden sinds het einde van jaren '60 en de huidige stand van zaken.

Het panel deze aflevering bestaat uit Menno Hurenkamp (hoofdredacteur Socialisme & Democratie, Wiardi Beckman Stichting), en Bart Jan Spruyt (historicus, journalist en oprichter van de Edmund Burke Stichting). Zij zullen Dalrymple na afloop ondervragen.
