The 1,000-year-old Kolaramma Temple in Kolar, Karnataka, is an ancient Dravidian-style shrine built by the Cholas, dedicated to Goddess Parvathi (Kolaramma/Mahishasuramardini). Known for its intricate granite carvings, this historic temple also houses the unique "scorpion goddess" Chelamma and features a 100-year-old Hundi pit. It is a powerful Shakti Peetham often visited by the Mysore Maharajas.
Presiding Deity: Goddess Kolaramma (an 8-armed form of Durga/Parvathi), who is worshipped via a mirror reflection.
Chelamma Shrine: The "Scorpion Goddess," where devotees believe she protects them from scorpion stings.
Architecture: Built in Dravidian style by Cholas (around 1012 A.D.), featuring stunning granite carvings.
The Hundi Tradition: A unique, deep, centuries-old hole in the floor used as a offering box.
Best Time to Visit: March-April during the annual Karaga Festival.
