In this video I talk about the effects of crossing your legs when you're sitting, long term. The body has been designed to move, when it's sedentary then it's favorite position is neutral. This is the position that puts the least amount of stress on the joints and surrounding muscles. The problem with crossing your legs is that you are taking several joints and muscles out of the neutral position, in particularly, the sacroiliac joint (SI Joint). This is the joint that joins your pelvic bones to your lower spine. As well as this, when your hips are in this position, the muscles that internally rotate your hips (turn your hips inwards) become stretched and the muscles which externally rotate your hips (turn your hips outwards) become shortened. If this position is sustained and repeated over months and years, the body will naturally adapt to this position causing various muscles imbalances.
