Knipe Fold (AKA Arnside Intake) WM 08, Westmorland & Furness - Motorcycle Trail Riding in England

A great lane in the Lake District close to the tourist hotspots of Hawkshead and Tarn Hows, as a result it can get extremely busy, as shown in the video, early morning is the best time to get a clear run.

Known generally as Knipe Fold after the hamlet at the southern end, it is also sometimes referred to as Arnside Intake after a geographical feature towards the northern end. On OS Maps this appears right next to the lane, which I guess is why people may presume it's the name of the road, the official name is Byway 529037.

Runs from the A593 Ambleside to Coniston Road, opposite the UCR from Hodge Close to Oxen Fell (see video LD04) down to Knipe Fold.

Unsealed with a natural stone surface apart from the short stretches of tarmac at each end and outcrops of natural bedrock in places. Nethertheless it is not particularly technical to ride. But a great long route with fantastic scenery.

Forms part of the Trans Euro Trail (TET) and the Trans Northern Trail Classic.

If meeting horses coming towards you, please pull over and cut your engine until they are past. If you catch up with horses, stop and take a break, giving them time to clear the road.
