Описание: IF YOU GO AWAY feels like a song written by Neil Diamond, but it was originally written in French by Jacques Brel in 1959 (ne me quitte pas) and translated into English by Rod McKuen. I believe it was first released in 1966. So many singers have covered this song - but I have heard the original French version by Jacques Brel himself, and Rod McKuen's English version. I have also listened to versions by Patricia Kaas, Dusty Springfield, Frank Sinatra, Shirley Bassey and possibly others.
BUT.....for me, it is Neil Diamond's version that stands out. It was as if the song was made for him to sing. Apart from the inimitable quality of his voice itself, his little nuances add something special that "lifts" it higher. Or could this be just the prejudice of a fan? I'm not sure. But if you are here, then you are a fan too, so I am presuming it's safe to give this opinion :) Please do let me know if you agree. Or not.
The videos on this channel can never have the polish of other more technically savvy ones. The appearance of the women (and men too) keep changing. When it's meant to be a "summer sky" the pictures can sometimes show people in winter clothes! :) I hope you will overlook this. It is the story and feelings I am most concerned with and the pictures mean to tell the story regardless of whether it's the same person portraying it in its different stages. The one constant is Neil Diamond's magical voice - and that's what we are about. I fervently hope you agree.
