The weather was changing and the city felt slower than usual. I decided to spend the morning in Ueno Park and walk through the quieter temple side. I started at Ueno Toshogu Shrine, followed the long path with stone lanterns, passed under the torii gate and visited the small temples around it. Even with the storm coming in, everything felt calm and gentle.
From there I crossed over to Shinobazu Pond, walked around the lotus plants and followed the paths around the small temple that sits in the middle of the water. It is a beautiful place if you are visiting Tokyo for the first time. The pond has its own atmosphere, especially during rainy season. It is peaceful, easy to access and gives a very soft look at Ueno Park.
As the wind picked up I took the metro to Ikebukuro. It was getting darker and I wanted to find shelter from the rain, so I ended up in a karaoke bar. A drink, a few songs and a quiet moment to wait until the storm passed. After that I took the metro back to Ryogoku, stopped at a Lawson convenience store and ended the day at home.
If you are planning a trip to Tokyo, this video shows what a real day can feel like when the weather changes your plans. Ueno Park, Ueno Toshogu Shrine, Shinobazu Pond and Ikebukuro all offer calm places to explore, even during typhoon season. This is a silent 4K LoFi walk. No talking. Just Tokyo, the storm and a soft moment to slow down.
